Thank You

Thank you for reading my blog and keeping up with it.  I hope you all enjoyed it and please tell your friends about it.  Hopefully I get a good grade on this.  The journey that i took throughout this blog was actually pretty fun, i was not expecting to have so much fun with this even though the system didn't work 100% of the time.  Goodbye and have a nice day.

Army

The army of the Confederacy was nearly half the size of the Union Army.  The Union was made up of the small United States Army that was still available and the large amount of volunteers and conscription's.  45% of the army was made up of White Americans.  9% was made up of German immigrants.  9% were African Americans.  9% were Irish born.  4% were Dutch, 2% Canadians, 2% English,  2% French, 1% Scandinavian, and the rest were various nationalities.  The majority of the Confederacy was made up of Southern white people.

Surprising Civil War Facts

1. One-third of the soldiers who fought for the Union Army were immigrants, and nearly one in 10 was African American.
2. Black Union soldiers refused their salaries for 18 months to protest being paid lower wages than white soldiers.
3. Harriet Tubman led a raid to free slaves during the Civil War.
4. Lincoln was shot at—and almost killed— nearly two years before he was assassinated.
5. Before William Tecumseh Sherman became a great Union general, he was demoted for apparent insanity.
6. General Ulysses S. Grant wasn’t the bloodiest general of the war—Robert E. Lee was.
7. Both before and during the Civil War, Abraham Lincoln pushed to send freed slaves abroad.
8. Robert E. Lee’s Virginia estate was confiscated by the Union and turned into a cemetery during the war.
9. Privates weren’t cannon fodder during the Civil War—generals were.
10. More men died in the Civil War than any other American conflict, and two-thirds of the dead perished from disease.

Casualties

The Civil War was America's single bloodiest war that was ever fought.  Roughly 2% of the population of that time died aka 620,000 men.  Many died from disease and infection.  Sickness was a major problem, and the new improvements in military weaponry did not help.  The Vietnam War was the next bloodiest battle of United States History.

Civil War Innovations

A few innovations of the civil war were the uses of army ambulance corps, new medical innovations, a new form of communication in the telegraph, railroads, and aerial reconnaissance.  The new medical procedures and forces saved countless lives in the civil war.  It may not have been perfect, but it allowed people to save infections and preserve the body.  Communication was vital for the Civil War, it allowed for information to be passed quickly and specifically.  Railroads allowed for quick transportation of troops.  Aerial reconnaissance was also crucial for information gathering.

Military Improvements

A few military improvements of the civil war were that the bullets were different, and rifling was used.  Rifling allowed for more deadlier precision and aim of the bullet.  Bullets were changed to minie bulls which were made from lead and were cone shaped.  These were deadly bullets which oftened killed on impact.  Ironclad warships were also implemented.  Gatling guns were also deadly inventions which crippled enemy forces.  The civil war was considered the first modern war.
